New Test Location for
the 200 mph goal?
Thanks to the work of
TSR team member Titto Medina we have a new test track that
looks to be worthy of some big speeds. The first test session will
take place Feb 25th. This will be more of a shake down of the car
and the track surface to see if there are any unforeseen issues. TSR
asked Tim about the goals of the test and future plans.
"To be honest the goal
of this first test session is not 200 mph but you never know how
things will play out and the team will be ready to take advantage of
any opportunities that come our way."
"I have only seen the
track on Google earth but from what I can see it looks fantastic. I
believe the runway and side road are more then 3300 feet long and
the narrower of the two is still 50 feet wide."
"As for future plans,
if the surface works out at this new test track we plan to learn as
much as possible, make any changes needed and schedule a return in
March with the goal to run 200 mph."
" The new location also
happens to be exactly 200 miles from my house."
TSR sat down with Tim
and asked him what his goals where for this season and the big
question, When will 200 mph fall?
"My goal is simple and
that is to have a better year then last year which so far looks
good, I have yet to get hit by a truck so it already is better then
last year." " To really get the most out of the season I will be
starting early this year and spending many extra hours every week at
our new home track in Carson Ca. testing the new 1 cell speed run
car and further work on the open car. 100 mph is the goal of the 1
cell car and 200 mph is the goal of the open car. I was the first to
put 2 cells over 100 mph and would like to claim that record in 1
cell as well."
"200 mph is the mark
everyone wants yet No One has reached. My blast in testing of 179
mph was the fastest non-official of any RC car but I know of a few
other cars rumored to be in the 170 mph area and I don't know if 200
mph can elude everyone much longer!"
Top Secret testing...
One of our sources at
TSR who asks to remain anonymous is reporting testing of a new speed
run car design that is said to have eclipsed any current record
speed. The reports are runs of 177 mph and 179 mph making it the
fastest electric car on earth. Stay tuned as the information becomes
available.

Tim breaks his leg and
puts the 2011 season on hold.
While riding home in mid
November only days after setting a new ISC 2 cell record Tim was hit
by a truck on the freeway. He was rushed to the hospital. The
surgery lasted more then 7 hours and when all was said
and done Tim had a broken knee that required a 4 inch metal plate and 7
screws plus a severally broken ankle that took 2 metal plates 6
inches long and 20 screws.
"We are into the physical
therapy several times a week learning to walk again and just general
recovery process right now. I still have a ways to go but I look
forward to getting back out to the track as soon as possible."
If you would like to send Tim a
email please feel free.

Hernandez.
Tim also #2 qualified
in the 3 cell "Top Fuel" class but due to a mechanical failure was

Tim
Smith breaks milestones and records at the ISC Ultimate Speed run in
Fontana CA~!
When the dust
settled after the USR 09 two milestones in the RC world had been
set. The first is Tim piloting his 2wd stock entry to not only a new
ISC speed record of 101 mph but also becoming the first RC driver to
ever attain the 100 mph mark in any 7.4v vehicle.
Not to be out
done Tim set out to shatter the old electric modified record of 97
mph. His run of 116 mph was enough to take the record but by the
time the weekend ended Tim set the bar even higher by laying down a
run of 126.5 mph also becoming the driver of the fastest 2wd RC
vehicle on the planet!
We would like
to thank our sponsors who are the real reason for all our success.

Tim Smith Racing Wins at the ISC event and sets a new world Speed record~!
Thanks to the awesome support of my sponsors
Team Novak,
MaxAmps batteries and Grand MotorSports Chassis. I was packed up and shipped off to Rockingham North Carolina for the ISC Speed Challenge.
Well I am very pleased to tell you (all the glory goes to God) we were able to not only Win the scale electric class (7.4v single 540 motor) at the event but break the existing speed record by just over 10 mph~! And bring the title of worlds fastest scale car home.
The track was an extremely pull your shoes off kind of sticky surface but for reasons I still don’t fully understand was like running on slippery glass when using clean foam tires not only for me but for everyone. Crazy weird… I could run full throttle down the bumpy dirty return road but if you tried the same thing on the track it would just spit you out like a watermelon seed.
I tried a few things that had produced more then 12 passes over 100 mph peaking at 121 mph here at home on a dusty parking lot but this surface was having none of it. The day was getting late and time was running out so I finally decided that I needed to just act like it was a dragstrip and goop my tires, hammer the throttle and see what happens... Well I made one pass this way and it was the record breaking pass.
My cars are currently on their way to the iHobby show in Chicago to be displayed in the Novak and MaxAmps booths and will be featured in an upcoming issue of RC Driver in a tell all show all article exposing all the bits and pieces I used to break this record.
Yellow Rocket from the past~!
The car is new but the paint design is from long ago. When asked by Mike Ogle head Honcho at GMS, what I would like the new car to look like I said “Remember that yellow one you did for me back in about 1988, I loved that car.” and the next thing I knew a box arrived containing a paint job all the way from 1988~!
The newest team car was not only created for the drag strip but also with the idea of running in this years
ISC RC speed challenge in an attempt to become not only one of the quickest cars on the planet but the fastest too.
Featuring: The new
GMS
wheelie bar system
Novak motor and esc,
MaxAmps lipo cells and the Spektrum DX3R system it’s easy to see why we are so excited to add this car to our team.
